 Gi joe 2003-2005
Welcome to the Outpost. Today I’m taking a look at the Stall siblings Barrel Roll, Black Out, and Bombstrike. There is a story that could be developed of their childhood and why Black Out went to Cobra. 2003-2005 did have some great characters and even though there is a 45 minute film that I have never seen, I think the Stalls and many other characters could make a very interesting series. Hard Drive is a cool character you never hear of, it appears the Spy Troops series had a female named Firewall um where is this figure, Dreadnok Burnout, and Agent Faces. I feel like these were great years for GI Joe and there are lots of new characters that didn’t get any love. Hacker, Red Spot, Switch Gears , and Depthcharge are all characters I’d like to see more of. Going back to the Stall’s these three would make an interesting start up and some of the more modern characters could be brought in. The story almost writes itself. Would Black Out ever see the light and join the Joe team? All questions that could dove into deep. I just think this is another missed opportunity for Hasbro to bring back GI Joe as the number 1 toy in the world. Overall I think these were very strong years and I want to see more modern figures from these years. Who loves these three years? Who would love to see more characters from these years? Make sure to check back for our next discussion.

I thought that story had merit, but I think the Barrel Roll I have was a year after, during the DTC (Direct TO Consumer) era. Also known as the "oops sent some to TRU too" era.

I gave mine a boonie hat upgrade and he was good to go. A definite improvement here was wrist articulation.

Sweet looking figure YTJ. You know me I love 82-94. I’m starting to appreciate some later years. Seeing how Hasbro puts out classified figures like Boston puts out albums I get a chance to really appreciate those years by picking up figures here and there.

I love a lot of the figures from that period. It is frustrating though the hands on Depth Charge. I would love to see them make a classified version of him though.

Thanks! this was really interesting!

In thinking back on this, the subtle improvement of wrist articulation and non-breakable hands was really just hitting it's stride before they changed away from the O-ring design.

I'm really interested in what Callsign: Longbow puts out along that front. Perhaps the perfect blend of mid 80's O-ring torso/leg ratio with the improvement of swivel wrists to hold an accessory. Exciting!

That is a good point. this was the beginning of swivel wrist. And my major complaint about it was the hands popped off so easily. Next thing you knew you had a guy with a nubbin arm and you could never find the hand. I am sure now they have better ways to do it.
