It is just a licensing expo. All that means is two businesses meet together to hammer out a deal or further negotaitions to use the G.I.Joe name and images on their product.
If I owned a company that made toothbrushes and wanted to put Shutterfly, Duke or Optimus Prime on my toothbrush, this is where I would go to talk about it. I might also head over to Disney, the WWE, Dreamworks, Lucasfilm, LOL or any other number of companies that came to the Expo looking to make a deal. Sometimes those companies bring examples of previously licensed products with them to attract people to their booth.
Movie news, toy news and other announcements are kept for big media events like SDCC, Toy Fair NY, and in the past Botcon and Joecon etc.
It is good that Hasbro still has a bit of faith left in the GIJOE name. Enough to give it a presence as an emerging brand at the expo.
With Snake Eyes being pushed into October, the movie may or may not have been one of their selling points.
Remember, Rise of Cobra had a crazy amount of licensed, non-toy merchandise.
Hasbro probably could not say anything specific at the expo, but you can bet they were eager to try and entice people to sign that sweet licensing deal with them so that when October does roll around, the shelves will be filled with the GIJOE name and the Micronauts name the following June.
